Announcement:

We have a very exciting fundraising opportunity brought to us from one of our Alumna. Michelle Clarlo-Hayes graduated from Mary Washington College in 1998 and is currently a photographer in Philadelphia. Michelle is willing to donate 50% of every sale from November 8th through December 15th to FMWR. Please be sure to mention "FMWR" when making a purchase so that every sale will be counted! Michelle is happy to accommodate special requests and commissions, so please feel free to contact her through the store site. This is FMWR first major fundraiser and we are extremely excited we will have this chance to bring former rowers and current friends together. Please see the FUNDRAISING link for more information.

ROWING AT MARY WASHINGTON

One of the most competitive varsity sports at Mary Washington is Rowing. Both the men’s and women’s teams have achieved impressive results facing formidable competition at regional and national championship regattas. This includes the yearly Mid-Atlantic Division III Regional Championships, ECAC National Invitational Rowing Championships, NCAA Championships and the International Rowing Association Regatta. Also, individual Mary Washington rowers have received academic and athletic honors to include CRCA Academic All American awards and US Rowing All American awards, while frequenting the dean’s and president’s lists. The crew team provides positive competition, creates long lasting memories and friendships, and teaches each rower how individual effort can help achieve team goals.

FMWR's Mission

Whether alumni, parents, friends or family of current or former rowers, we have a special interest in the future success of rowing at Mary Washington. For over 30 years the rowing program has persevered despite budget restrictions, equipment shortages, impermanent practice and storage venues, yet we still face a struggle to simply retain the program. Since Mary Washington’s Rowing Team depends largely upon fundraising for equipment and supplies, FMWR membership dues and fundraising events will be able to help the team’s growing need for funds not provided by the university. FMWR will work closely with the team’s coaching staff to keep association members informed of: the financial needs of the team, the overall progress in fundraising towards meeting these needs, and not to mention the progress of the team throughout the season- which is why we are all here, right?

What Will the FMWR do for Alumni?

While it is the primary objective to support Mary Washington’s current rowing team, we also want to have some fun. This website will just as easily keep you connected with your old rowing pals and increase alumni communication and networking by providing the option to update contact, career, and rowing involvement information of our members. We will arrange special events for fundraising to include alumni boat entries for special regatta’s, alumni races, and member dinners.

The FMWR website is an important first step in establishing this association. The success of the website will be due largely to support from an active rowing alumni base, thus making it a collective effort (sound familiar rowers?). The FMWR needs your support and commitment in order to make our rowing alumni community strong.

What Will the FMWR do for Non-Alumni Members?

FMWR will be heavily comprised of alumni, it is not alumni exclusive. You can also join if you are one of the following:

  • Former members of the Mary Washington Rowing Team
  • Current Mary Washington rowers, coxswains, and coaching staff
  • Parents/family of current/former rowers
  • Friends and supporters of the Mary Washington’s rowing program
  • Friends and supporters of sustaining a rowing presence in the Fredericksburg area

Comments, feedback, and suggestions are welcome. All events are open to all members. Don’t know how to row? Attend our learn-to-row events!
